A man was hospitalized with severe injuries Friday after his vehicle struck a power pole in Santa Ana, authorities said.
The man was speeding when he lost control of his Mustang in the 400 block of southbound South Newhope Street and struck the pole at 10:28 p.m. Thursday, said Santa Ana Police Department Cmdr. Jose Gonzalez.
Orange County Fire Authority paramedics took 40 minutes to extricate the victim from the wreckage, a news videographer reported from the scene.
