The contentious issue of coyotes eating pets and scaring people in suburban Huntington Beach will be aired at a town hall Monday night.

An apparent population increase, and simultaneous increase in the disappearance of cats and small dogs, has resulted in calls for coyotes to be trapped or shot.

Others have risen to the animals’ defense, and say they should be left alone to reach their own population equilibrium.

The city has reportedly invited state Fish and Wildlife Department and professional pest control experts to explain their views.

The meeting is from 6-9 p.m. at First Christian church, 1207 Main St., Huntington beach, according to the city.
