A Capistrano Beach man pleaded guilty Thursday to overbilling the county about $130,000 and embezzling about $440,000 from a company that managed part of the Dana Point harbor and was immediately sentenced to a year in jail.

Brian Cleveland Dunn, 63, accepted a plea deal from Orange County Superior Court Judge Kazuharu Makino, according to Roxi Fyad of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Dunn also will be put on three years of formal probation.

Dunn has paid $132,787 in restitution to the county so far, Fyad said. He was ordered to begin his jail sentence Jan. 29.

Dunn used a company credit card when he worked for Vintage Marina Partners between 2007 to 2011 to fund about $440,000 in personal purchases such as clothes, trips and improvements to his Hawaii home, according to prosecutors.

Dunn formed the Organic Tree company in 2008 to buy landscaping materials for county projects, and between that year and 2012, he marked up the prices of materials to overbill the county by more than $130,000.
