A former Anaheim resident who was convicted of aiding terrorists was deported Tuesday to his native Somalia, federal officials said.
Ahmed Nasir Tahlil Mohamud, 41, was handed over to authorities in Mogadishu on Tuesday, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Mohamud was convicted, along with three co-defendants, in February 2013 of providing money to a terrorist militia group in Somalia, al-Shabaab. Mohamud, who worked as a taxi driver, raised money from donors in Orange County, according to ICE.
Mohamud, who was sentenced to six years in federal prison, became a lawful permanent U.S. resident in August 2004, according to ICE.
