The Orange County coroner’s office Friday released the name of a man struck by a vehicle when he got out of a disabled vehicle on the Garden Grove (22) Freeway and a woman injured in a subsequent crash who died at a hospital.

The pedestrian killed was Raul Vazquez Jr., 50, of Santa Ana. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner’s office said.

Charlotte Nugent, 68, of Seal Beach, died at UCI Medical Center in Orange at 9:37 a.m. She was driving one of the vehicles that crashed, the coroner said.

Two of three people injured in the crash were rushed to a trauma center following the  7 a.m. crash on the eastbound freeway, approaching Beach Boulevard, said Garden Grove Fire Department Capt. Thanh Nguyen. Nugent was one of the trauma patients.

“The first-arriving crew found a three-vehicle collision that began with a disabled car on the shoulder,’ he said.

“The car was not involved in a collision, but one of the (occupants), possibly the driver, got out of the car after pulling over and was struck by a vehicle,” he said. “That vehicle struck a wall as a result, and subsequently a three-vehicle chain reaction occurred.”
