A 24-year-old Anaheim woman killed in an alcohol-fueled crash on the southbound Costa Mesa (55) Freeway in Tustin was identified Friday by the Orange County coroner’s office.
Anthony Robles, 27, of Rowland Heights, was driving a 2008 BMW 335i south on the freeway in the No. 3 lane “at a high rate of speed, in excess of 65 mph,” with Esperanza Cruz in the right front passenger seat just after 2:05 a.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The car then slammed into the rear of a 2012 Lexus RX350 in the same lane just north of the Santa Ana (5) Freeway, officials said.
The Lexus flipped over and its driver, 22-year-old Oriana Rousseau of Newport Beach, was taken to OC Global Medical Center with unspecified injuries, the CHP reported. Cruz died at the scene, the coroner reported.
Robles was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and the freeway was closed for about two hours and 15 minutes, the CHP reported.
