A motorist was killed when his pickup collided head-on with a big rig in Jurupa Valley, authorities said Wednesday.
The crash happened at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Castellano Road and Rubidoux Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The agency said the driver of a Ford Ranger going northbound on Rubidoux was traveling at an unknown speed when he “lost control, collided with a fence, veered into southbound lanes and then collided head-on with a semi.”
Deputies and paramedics arrived minutes later, at which point the pickup driver, whose identity was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.
The big rig driver, also not identified, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment. He’s expected to recover.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Jurupa Valley station at 951-955-2600.
