Two seniors were injured Monday in a three-vehicle collision that forced the closure of a transition from the Riverside (91) Freeway to the Corona (71) Expressway in Corona.

The crash happened about 10:40 a.m. at the westbound 91 connector to the northbound 71, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said that two seniors in a sedan were hurt when their vehicle, another car and a pickup impacted at the location, though the circumstances were not immediately clear.

Corona Fire Department crews arrived within 10 minutes and determined the seniors, whose identities were not released, required hospital treatment. They were taken to a Riverside medical facility with unspecified minor to moderate injuries, according to officials at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Both lanes of the transition bridge were initially shut down because of the wreck. However, CHP officers and Corona police officers managed to move traffic around the crash site and reopen a short time later.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
