The number of people hospitalized with coronavirus in Riverside County has fallen further, continuing a steady decline that started earlier this year.
According to the Riverside University Health System, COVID hospitalizations countywide are at 52 as of Friday, down from 55 on Thursday, and that includes nine intensive care patients, one less than a day ago.
By contrast, on March 1, RUHS said 220 people were hospitalized throughout the county with a coronavirus infection, 35 of whom were in ICU.
Officials said the aggregate number of COVID cases recorded since the pandemic began in March 2020 is 597,674.
According to RUHS, a total 6,474 deaths from virus-related complications have been recorded in the past 24 months. Thursday’s figure was 6,468. The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can go back weeks, according to health officials.
The number of known active virus cases in the county, based on available data, is 2,548, down four from a day ago. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 597,674 — according to the county Executive Office. Verified patient recoveries countywide are 588,652.
