The Coachella Valley Firebirds planned preseason opener Friday evening at Acrisure Arena was canceled due to a power outage in the area, the American Hockey League team announced.
The 6 p.m. game against the Ontario Reign never began. Fans were offered free soda and water at all concession locations as the team hoped to be able to begin the game. Buzzbox and Ultra bar were open along with northwest and southwest beer carts.
The cancellation was announced at 7:38 p.m.
Individual game ticket buyers will receive a refund at the point of purchase. The team will provide additional information to season ticket holders “in the coming days.”
The Firebirds are scheduled to face the Henderson Silver Knights in a preseason game at Acrisure Arena Sunday and begin the regular season next Friday at Acrisure Arena against the Bakersfield Condors.
