The average price of a gallon of self-service regular gasoline in Riverside County dropped nine-tenths of a cent Saturday to $4.294, its lowest amount since Dec. 26, 2022.

The average price has dropped for seven straight days, and is 4.1 cents less than one week ago, 6.8 cents less than one month ago and 39.5 cents less than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $2.079 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.

While “it’s hard to say how much lower they will drop” Southern California “gas prices often decrease during” December, said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.

The national average price decreased for the 10th consecutive day, dropping six-tenths of a cent to $3.02. It is 3.7 cents less than one week ago, 8.6 cents less than one month ago and 18.2 cents less than one year ago. The national average price has dropped $1.996 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.

“The national average is tantalizingly close to falling below $3 a gallon, and it could happen in a few days,” AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said Thursday. “But 32 states already have an average below or well below $3. Hockley County, Texas appears to have the lowest county average, at $2.30.”
