Firefighters rushed to a senior citizens’ apartment complex in Riverside to find smoke coming from a first floor room and traced it to a dumpster in a garbage collection room, authorities said Sunday.

The fire was reported at 10:23 p.m. Saturday at the Oasis Senior Villas in the 2300 block of 14th Street, according to Riverside Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Allen. It was out at 10:45 p.m.

“Firefighters made a quick and an aggressive attack to extinguish the fire,” Allen said. “Upon investigation, they discovered the fire started in a dumpster stored in a garbage chute collection room. The fire was confined to the room of origin.”

No injuries were reported and no residents were displaced, he said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
