The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County increased eight-tenths of a cent Sunday to $4.611.

The average price is 1 cent more than one week ago, 13.4 cents more than one month ago and 19.3 cents more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $1.762 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.

Thursday’s explosion and fire at Chevron’s El Segundo oil refinery — the state’s second largest — is expected to cause Southern California gas prices to rise in the coming days, though the extent and duration of any potential increases is unclear.

The national average price dropped seven-tenths of a cent to $3.133. It is one-tenth of a cent more than one week ago, but 7.1 cents less than one month ago and 4.3 cents less than one year ago. It has dropped $1.883 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
