A new fire station was unveiled Wednesday in Desert Hot Springs that aims to expand emergency response capacity.

The city, in partnership with the Riverside County Fire Department, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Fire Station 98 (Long Canyon) Wednesday morning at 69111 Hacienda Ave.

The event featured remarks from Mayor Scott Matas, Riverside County Fire Chief Robert Fish and Bryan White, the department’s Central Division 2 chief.

The station has a four-person engine company staff, and will transition at an unspecified date to accommodate Quint 98, a 107-foot ladder truck equipped to support advance firefighting, rescue and high-angle response operations.

City officials said the station is a critical investment that reflects the city’s commitment to improve response capacity.
