The Jackie Robinson Foundation, the Los Angeles Fund for Public Education and the LA84 Foundation will be honored at Thursday night’s inaugural Blue Diamond Gala at Dodger Stadium.

Rachel Robinson, Jackie Robinson’s widow who founded the foundation shortly after her husband’s death in 1972, will accept the award on behalf of the foundation, which provides four-year college scholarships, graduate school grants and extensive mentoring to a diverse group of academically distinguished students with leadership potential.

The Los Angeles Fund for Public Education helps establish partnerships intended to better the Los Angeles Unified School District. Its programs include a school breakfast program, creating internships at some of the city’s most prestigious companies, efforts to increase arts education, and middle school programs to improve students’ character.

Chair and CEO Megan Chernin will accept the award of the fund’s behalf.

The LA84 Foundation manages Southern California’s share of the surplus from the 1984 Summer Olympics and provides grants for youth athletic programs throughout Southern California. Its president, Anita DeFrantz, will accept the award.

Proceeds from the gala will benefit the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, the team’s official charity, which supports programs in sports and recreation, education and literacy, and heath and wellness.
