Longtime Los Angeles Kings announcer Nick Nickson will receive the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster, the NHL Broadcasters’ Association announced Thursday.
Nickson will receive the award at the Hockey Hall of Fame NHL Media Awards Luncheon Nov. 9 in Toronto, part of the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Induction Weekend, which begins Nov. 6.
A plaque honoring Nickson will be displayed in the Esso Great Hall at the Hockey Hall of Fame alongside past award recipients.
Nickson joined the Kings in 1981 as the analyst for their radio and television broadcasts. He became the radio play-by-play announcer in 1990 when the team dropped simulcasts in favor of separate radio and television broadcasts.
The award recipient is selected by the NHL Broadcasters’ Association. The award is named in honor of the longtime announcer for “Hockey Night in Canada.”
