The temperature at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is forecast by the National Weather Service to be around 90 degrees for the kickoff of Saturday’s Idaho-USC nonconference football game, set for shortly after 5 p.m.
There will be cooling fans on both sidelines and coaching and medical staffs for both teams will emphasize hydration, according to officials with both athletic departments.
The game is on Joint Forces Day, with 10,000 members of the military provided with tickets.
USC’s sand volleyball team, which won the 2015 American Volleyball Coaches Association national team championship, will be saluted during the game.
USC’s student-athletes who posted a 3.0 or better grade point average during the 2014-15 academic year will be honored. There were 264 in the fall and 305 in the spring among USC’s 550 student-athletes, according to information supplied by the athletic department.
Oddsmakers have made the Trojans (1-0) a 43- to 45-point favorite. ESPN’s Football Power Index gives USC a 99.6 percent chance of defeating the Vandals, who have had three consecutive one-victory seasons and lost their opener to Ohio, 45-28, on Sept. 3.
The Trojans are 8-0 against Idaho, with seven of the games taking place from 1922-29, when both teams were members of the Pacific Coast Conference. The other was in 2007, which USC won 38-10, the only time Idaho reached double digits against the Trojans.
