Major League Soccer’s elevated security standards will be in effect at StubHub Center for the first time Saturday night when the Los Angeles Galaxy plays host to Real Salt Lake.

All fans will be fully screened upon entrance. The screenings will be conducted via a full pat down or with the use of a search wand of magnetometers.

Under the new league-wide bag policy, fans are prohibited from bringing the following into a stadium — large purses; coolers; briefcases; backpacks; luggage; computer bags; camera bags; and any bags larger than 14 inches by 14 inches by 6 inches. All bags will be subject to search upon entry.

Special considerations will be made for fans with special medical needs and parents caring for infants.

The increased security policy was unanimously supported by the MLS Board of Governors and involved input from all 20 teams, a league official said.

“The safety of our fans, players and staff is paramount,” said Ray Whitworth, MLS’ senior vice president of security and operations.

“The updated security measures bring us in line with professional sports leagues around the United States and Canada while maintaining the unique sports experience that is MLS.”
