In celebration of Earth Day 2025, LA Metro and other regional transit operators will offer free rides Tuesday with events planned throughout L.A. County to promote environmental stewardship.

Metro will offer free rides all day on its bus and rail system. Turnstiles will be unlocked and fare boxes covered until 2:59 a.m. Wednesday. The agency’s bike share will be free for a 30-minute ride by selecting “1-Ride” and entering the promo code 042225 at any kiosk, online or in the app. The code can be used multiple times throughout the day, including electric bikes.

Metro Micro, a ride-share program, will be free too. No code required, but customers must have the new app downloaded onto their phones, which can be found here www.metro.net/micro/#how-to-ride. If you’re booking by phone, you can also mention the Earth Day promotion when calling 323-GO-METRO.

“This Earth Day, I am applauding our millions of LA Metro riders,” Metro Board Chair and L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn said in a statement. “Taking transit is one of the best ways to lower your carbon footprint and we are making LA Metro an even cleaner option by investing in electric trains and low-emission buses.”

Metrolink will provide free rides, too, on all train lines, including its Arrow service. The transit agency is teaming with three Earth Day organizers Tuesday — details can be found at metrolinktrains.com/ticketsOverview/discounts/current-promotions/earth-day/.

Commuters can take Metrolink’s Antelope Valley line to the Lancaster station for a flower pot painting party led by the L.A. County’s Department of Public Health, travel to Carlsbad via OC and IEOC lines to enjoy flower fields, or enjoy an evening with Coffee and Conservation in Santa Ana hosted by OC Habitats.

Riders in the city of L.A. can take DASH, Commuter Express and LAnow for free using the code Earth2025. Similarly, Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus and Pasadena Transit will offer free rides.

The Orange County Transportation Authority is following suit, offering free rides on OC buses Tuesday. No passes are required to hop aboard on any regular bus route at any time that day.
