The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped one-tenth of a cent Monday to $4.649 after back-to-back increases totaling a half-cent.

The increases followed a 17-day streak of decreases totaling 16.1 cents that dropped the average price to its lowest amount since Feb. 8, according to figures from AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 4.4 cents less than one week ago, 18.1 cents lower than one month ago and 16.5 cents below what it was one year ago. It has dropped $1.844 since rising to a record $6.493 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The Orange County average price rose six-tenths of a cent to $4.572, its third consecutive increase following a run of 17 decreases in 18 days totaling 15.7 cents that dropped it to its lowest amount since Feb. 6. It rose four-tenths of a cent both Saturday and Sunday.

The Orange County average price is 3.1 cents less than one week ago, 19.1 cents lower than one month ago and 11.6 cents below what it was one year ago. It has dropped $1.886 since rising to a record $6.458 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The national average price rose a half-cent to $3.14, its sixth consecutive increase after a five-day streak of decreases totaling 2.2 cents. It has risen 1.9 cents over the past six days, including two-tenths of a cent Sunday.

The national average price is 1.6 cents more than one week ago, but 5.2 cents less than one month ago and 30.6 cents lower than one year ago. It has dropped $1.876 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.

“National average will start to rise this week and by July 4 could be $3.25-$3.40/gal based on current situation,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, which provides real-time gas price information from more than 150,000 stations, wrote on social media Sunday.

“Not going to see records.”
