The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority Tuesday warned of upcoming overnight closures on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in the Santa Clarita Valley to allow for overhead sign installations.
The closures will take place for three nights Aug. 11-13 between the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway and Calgrove Boulevard.
Specifically, the overnight closures are scheduled from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day.
All of the signs are designed to “enhance safety and improve traffic flow” and will include exit directions and freeway transition information for cars and trucks.
The closures’ primary detour will direct drivers from the freeway at Newhall Ranch Road. From there, motorists can continue east on Newhall Ranch Road/Golden Valley Road and connect to the southbound Antelope Valley/Golden State freeway interchange.
The work is part of a $679 million project that is one of Metro’s “Twenty-Eight by ’28” initiative.
All of the work is scheduled for completion in 2026, ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
