A blaze that ignited Tuesday near an apparent homeless encampment charred several acres, but no injuries were reported, firefighters reported.

Firefighters responded to reports of a vegetation fire in a rural area near Palm Hills Drive about 2 a.m., according to the Palm Springs Fire Department.

The blaze, which blackened between three and four acres before being contained, appeared to start in an area where homeless people were living, firefighters said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
