The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County set a Memorial Day record Monday with an increase of two-tenths of a cent to $6.166.
The previous record was $6.162 on May 30, 2022, then an all-time record caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine earlier that year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. This is the second time it has been above $6 on Memorial Day.
The average price has risen $1.472 since the joint U.S./Israel attack on Iran on Feb. 28, moving within 32.8 cents of the record $6.494 set Oct. 5, 2022. It is 4.8 cents less than one week ago, but 14.7 cents more than one month ago and $1.367 higher than one year ago.
Monday’s slight increase ended a six-day streak of decreases totaling 5 cents, including 1.1 cents Sunday.
The Orange County average price was at its second-highest amount for a Memorial Day, $6.11, 3.3 cents less than the record $6.143 set in 2022. This was the second time it was above $6 on Memorial Day.
The Orange County average price dropped eight-tenths of a cent Monday, extending its run of decreases to 11 in 12 days. It has dropped 8.2 cents over the past 12 days, including nine-tenths of a cent Sunday.
The Orange County average price is 6.4 cents less than one week ago, but 13.9 cents more than one month ago and $1.394 higher than one year ago. It has risen $1.474 since the attack on Iran, moving within 34.9 cents of the record $6.459 set Oct. 5, 2022.
The national average price was also at its second-highest amount for a Memorial Day, $4.507, 11.2 cents less than the record $4.619 set in 2022. It dropped eight-tenths of a cent Monday to $4.507, eight-tenths of a cent less than one week ago but 42.1 cents more than one month ago and $1.326 higher than one year ago.
The national average price has risen $1.525 since the attack on Iran, moving within 50.9 cents of the record $5.016 set June 14, 2022.
