The West Covina Unified School District donated 21,600 masks to Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center, it was announced Friday.

The district delivered 20,000 medical face masks and 1,600 N-95 respirator masks to the hospital on Tuesday.

The masks were part of the district’s emergency stockpile of personal protective equipment and donated at the direction of the WCUSD Board of Education.

During and after the H1N1 virus pandemic that occurred in 2009 and 2010, West Covina Unified officials took steps to prepare for the possibility of a future pandemic. Such efforts included adding precautionary cases of face masks to the district’s yearly orders, ensuring the district would have an abundance of masks to protect staff, according to a statement released by the district.
