
The debut of Disney’s live-action “Cinderella” dominated the North American box office over the weekend, easily outpacing Liam Neeson’s latest thriller, according to final figures released Monday.
“Cinderella” opened with $67.9 million, according to box-office tracker Rentrak. That easily bested the debut of Neeson’s “Run All Night,” which earned $11 million between Friday and Sunday.
“Kingsman: The Secret Service” remained a box office draw, earning $6.2 million to push its five-week take to nearly $107.4 million. Will Smith’s “Focus” placed fourth with $5.74 million.
The artificial-intelligence thriller “Chappie” was a close fifth with $5.7 million.
Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” ($5.7 million); “Spongebob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water” ($4 million); “McFarland USA” ($3.6 million); “Fifty Shades of Grey” ($2.9 million); and “The DUFF” ($2.8 million).
