Police Sunday were looking for two armed men who were allegedly involved in a carjacking before leading officers on a chase into the desert in Cathedral City.

It happened at about 10:45 p.m. Friday, when the two men, described as being between the ages of 16 and 22, stole a 20-year-old man’s truck at gunpoint, according to Cathedral City police.

Officers spotted the stolen truck the next morning driving south on Rancho Vista Drive and chased the suspects into the desert area east of Plumley Road and north of Dinah Shore Drive, police said.

The suspects then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into the desert.

Despite personnel from multiple law-enforcement agencies dispatched to look for the suspects, including a California Highway Patrol helicopter, the suspects managed to evade police.

The stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to its owner.
