Two people were injured Wednesday, one critically, in a two-vehicle wreck at a Winchester intersection.

The crash happened about 11:05 a.m. at Scott and Winchester roads, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said that the two cars impacted, causing one to roll several times and hit a retaining wall, trapping the driver.

The specific circumstances behind the collision were not immediately clear.

Riverside County Fire Department personnel reached the location within a few minutes and extricated the motorist, who was taken to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries, according to officials at the scene.

An occupant of the same vehicle suffered minor to moderate injuries and was also transported to a hospital for treatment, officials said.

The occupants of the second vehicle involved in the crash apparently were not hurt.

As of 11:30 a.m., the intersection was partially blocked because of the extrication operation and wreckage removal.
