A fire that erupted Monday in a tractor-trailer parked at a vehicle auction yard in north Riverside caused major damage to the truck but was stopped by firefighters before spreading to surrounding vehicles.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 5:10 p.m. at Manheim Riverside, a multi-acre auction facility just east of Riverside Municipal Airport, near the intersection of Dales Street and Jurupa Avenue, according to the Riverside Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging on the underside of the big rig, the department reported.

Firefighters quickly deployed around the truck and contained the fire, preventing it from extending to surrounding property, according to reports from the scene.

It was unclear how many of the six cars loaded onto the tractor-trailer were damaged.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
