The Coachella Valley Firebirds Tuesday announced the signing of Turner Ottenbreit, a defenseman who had one goal and seven assists in 64 games last season with the Beijing-based Kunlun Red Star of the Kontinental Hockey League.
The 27-year-old is returning to the American Hockey League after a one-season absence. He scored 10 goals and 29 assists in 179 AHL games over five seasons with the San Antonio Rampage and Iowa Wild.
The 6-foot-3, 192-pound Ottenbreit scored 14 goals and had 28 assists in 98 games over three seasons with the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies and Allen Americans.
Before his professional career, Ottenbreit scored 23 goals and had 89 assists for 114 points in 268 games over four seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Seattle Thunderbirds, helping them to the championship in the 2016-17 season and being their captain the following season.
