A transient was sentenced Friday to 22 years to life in state prison for fatally stabbing a homeless woman and trying to kill a man in Pomona.

Jose Alfredo Mancinas, now 27, pleaded guilty July 11 to one count each of second-degree murder and attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Mancinas was charged in the March 9, 2019 slaying of Stacy Lynn Castillo, who was stabbed multiple times in the 1200 block of East Mission Avenue, near a homeless shelter where they had both been staying.

He was also charged with attempted murder for the stabbings of a man near Castillo the same day, along with another man an evening earlier at a bus stop at East Holt and North Towne avenues, according to the District Attorney’s Office. He pleaded guilty in one of those attacks.

Mancinas was arrested on March 9, 2019, after police saw him walking away from the scene, authorities said.

He has remained behind bars since then, jail records show.
