The Los Angeles Police Department will conduct DUI checkpoints throughout the city from Thursday through Sunday, the department announced Wednesday.
Officers will be looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, including marijuana, some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs that could impair driving.
A first-time DUI charge could cost drivers about $13,500 in fines and penalties, and impaired drivers could also have their license suspended.
The checkpoints were scheduled for:
— Thursday, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Olympic Boulevard and Harbor (110) Freeway; Slauson Avenue and Harbor (110) Freeway;
— Friday, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Pacific Coast Highway and Figueroa Street; and
— Saturday, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Victory Boulevard and Babcock Avenue; Santa Monica Boulevard and Bronson Avenue.
Additionally, DUI saturation patrols will be deployed in the Newton area on Saturday between 4 p.m. and 12 a.m., and in the Olympic area on Sunday between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m.
