A pedestrian who was killed after being ejected from a vehicle in a crash on the Artesia (91) Freeway in Long Beach was identified by county authorities Wednesday.

Maria Sanchez, 46, was identified as the victim in the crash, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

CHP officers responded at around 10:25 p.m. Monday to the westbound freeway and the Cherry Avenue off-ramp regarding a fire that left a vehicle completely engulfed in flames, CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service.

Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics.

The CHP issued a SigAlert for the westbound freeway and the Cherry Avenue off-ramp, shutting down both sides of the freeway for four hours while they investigated the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
