An Alhambra man suspected of gift card fraud valued at more than $2 million was behind bars Thursday.
Ruhai Li, 36, was booked into the Benoit Detention Center in Indio Monday on suspicion of felony forgery of access cards, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
An investigation began into retail fraud at a Coachella Valley business shortly before noon Monday, and Li was identified as a suspect.
He was taken into custody without incident in the 67000 block of East Palm Canyon Drive in Cathedral City on Monday. A search warrant was later executed for Li’s vehicle, where deputies recovered more than 9,000 “fraudulent gift cards valued at over $2.1 million,” according to the sheriff’s department.
The investigation was ongoing, and anyone with additional information was asked to call 760-836-1600.
