The 19-year-old man who was found dead on USC‘s fraternity row and whose death prompted a police investigation, was identified Saturday by authorities.

Joseph Paek’s death was being investigated as a possible suicide, according to the Daily Trojan, the campus newspaper.

The fatality was reported at 4:35 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of West 28th Street, near Figueroa Street, in the University Park section of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im.

The investigation was taking place on USC’s fraternity row and was being handled by the LAPD but has since been turned over to the county coroner’s office, police said. The coroner has not determined a cause of death for Paek yet.

The victim died at the Gamma Epsilon Omega fraternity house, according to the Daily Trojan. Paek was a member of that fraternity, according to the fraternity’s website.

The location is north of USC, which issued an alert advising people to avoid the area.

The advisory indicated that there was no threat to USC or the community.
