La Brea Bakery announced Tuesday that by the end of the year, its entire line of artisan breads will use non-GMO ingredients.

“We have always been committed to sourcing high-quality ingredients for our breads and foods, and this shift to non-GMO makes sense for us and our consumers,” said Jon Davis, La Brea Bakery’s senior vice president of Culinary Research and Innovation.

“Our ingredient labels are not complex and are already free from any artificial flavors, colors or preservatives, so the commitment to non-GMO is a natural next step for us,” he said.

President Kristina Dermody, president of La Brea Bakery, said the company was “proud to be the first North American artisan bread brand that is making this commitment” to non-genetically modified ingredients.

Dermody said all La Brea Bakery breads will bear a seal signifying that they have been verified by the Non-GMO Project’s Product Verification Program.

La Brea Bakery breads and foods can be found at more than 6,500 grocery stores in all 50 states and Canada.

Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Los Angeles, the bakery operates a flagship storefront in Los Angeles and a casual dining restaurant in Anaheim.
