Significant rain is expected in the Inland Empire later this week, forecasters said Sunday.

Rain is likely to fall Wednesday through Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters were reporting a 90% chance of greater than an inch of rain for the valleys and a 65%-90% possibility of coastal mountain slopes receiving at least two inches of rain.

The weather service said precipitation chances are the highest from Thursday night to Friday night.

Snow accumulation will occur at 8,000 feet Thursday afternoon and will lower to nearly 6,000 feet Friday night to Saturday morning as precipitation tapers off, the NWS said.

In the Riverside metropolitan area, daytime highs will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s this week, with overnight temperatures in the 40s and lower 50s.

The Coachella Valley will see highs in the mid-70s on Monday, then temperatures will drop into the 60s for the rest of the week.
