A brush fire broke out Thursday alongside the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley, triggering evacuation orders and warnings while burning seven and a half acres with 20% containment.
The Real Fire was burning in heavy fuels with a moderate rate of spread, according to the 7 p.m. update issued by the Riverside County Fire Department.
The non-injury fire was reported at 5 p.m. Thursday in the area of Camino Real and Granite Hill Drive, on the north side of the freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews from the county, Riverside Fire Department and other agencies were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate to the northeast amid light winds and 100-degree heat.
Firefighters established hose lays in the vicinity of properties in the path of the fire, while two Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter initiated runs.
An evacuation order was issued at 6:15 p.m. for the area north of Granite Hill Drive, east of Edgewood Point, west of Boulder Drive and south of the water towers, the Riverside County Fire Department reported.
An evacuation warning was issued at the same time for the area north of Granite Hill Drive, east of Boulder Drive, west of Soto Drive and south of the water towers.
A care and reception center was established at Patriot High School. Evacuees may take their small animals with them.
Large animals can be taken to the Riverside County Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley.
The freeway was not impacted, except for drivers slowing to look at the flames.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
