A 6-inch gas line and water main that were broken when they were struck during construction work by Department of Transportation workers in Westchester is estimated to be repaired by Thursday morning, representatives from Southern California Gas said Thursday.

SoCalGas crews were currently on site making temporary repairs and planned to work overnight and through Thursday morning.

DOT crews responded at 9:07 p.m. Wednesday to 9600 block of Sepulveda Boulevard and 96th Street where they closed the northbound lanes of Sepulveda Boulevard at Imperial Highway and the east and westbound lanes at Sepulveda Boulevard and 96th Street, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.

The damaged line and the repair work could create havoc with the rush of holiday travelers heading in and out of Los Angeles International Airport for Memorial Day weekend travel, which gets underway Thursday.

Middleton said travel to and from Los Angeles airport will be ”severely impacted” until temporary repairs are completed.

The damage to the gas line and water main was caused by a third-party conducting utility work, said Erick Rivas, a spokesman for SoCalGas.

” This third-party work was not related to any SoCalGas work. At this time, we do not believe there will be any disruptions to gas service,” Rivas told City News Service. “SoCalGas crews are currently on site making temporary repairs.”
