The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped under $6 for the first time since April 24 Thursday, decreasing 2.7 cents to $5.997.

The average price has fallen 16 of the past 17 days, decreasing 21.7 cents, including 2.5 cents Wednesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It dropped six consecutive days, rose two-tenths of a cent May 25 and resumed decreasing May 26.

The average price is 12.8 cents less than one week ago and 18.6 cents lower than one month ago, but $1.269 more than one year ago.

The Orange County average price dropped for the 21st time in 22 days, decreasing 3.2 cents to $5.891, its lowest amount since April 23. It has dropped 30.1 cents over the past 22 days, including 3.3 cents Wednesday.

The Orange County average price dropped three consecutive days, rose one-tenth of a cent May 17 and resumed dropping May 18. It is 16.5 cents less than one week ago and 26.4 cents lower than one month ago but $1.25 more than one year ago.

The national average price dropped for the 14th consecutive day, falling 2 cents to $4.241, its lowest amount since April 29. It has dropped 32.3 cents over the past 14 days, including 2.9 cents Wednesday.

The national average price is 18.5 cents less than one week ago and 24.6 cents lower than one month ago but $1.097 more than one year ago.
