A nationwide recruiting campaign to find applicants qualified to fill the top spot at Palm Springs International Airport was in full swing Friday.
City officials confirmed that, earlier this month, efforts to find a new airport executive director began but there was no word on how the field of prospective candidates was shaping up.
Since May 22, Victoria Carpenter, assistant director of aviation at the aerodrome, has been serving as interim executive director, following the departure of Harry Barrett Jr., who left the position to take over as assistant director for the Sacramento County Department of Airports.
Carpenter has been employed in different capacities at Palm Springs International since 2021.
“Victoria Carpenter has been an integral part of the executive management team at Palm Springs International Airport,” City Manager Scott Stiles said in April.
Whether Carpenter herself is a candidate for the executive director position was not disclosed.
Prospects who make it through the initial vetting process may be interviewed by members of the City Council before any appointment is affirmed.
The city said the new chief’s annual salary range will be between $203,142 and $259,876.
The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree and a minimum of 10 years’ experience as a senior administrator at a commercial airport, according to the city.
The current application deadline is July 12, though that could be modified if no satisfactory applicants are identified.
