A 31-year-old motorcyclist sustained major injuries Friday when he crashed the bike alongside Highway 74 in Pinyon Pines, prompting the temporary closure of the eastbound lane.
The crash was reported shortly after 3:15 p.m. Friday in the 71000 block of Highway 74, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle was being ridden at an unspecified rate of speed on Highway 74 when the rider made an unsafe turn for unknown reasons, causing the bike to go off the roadway and down an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The rider, who was only identified as a 31-year-old man, was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs via helicopter, the CHP said.
The crash remained under investigation.
