Gunshots fired during an argument outside a Pico Rivera Chuck E. Cheese’s Sunday night struck the business but apparently no one inside was injured, a sheriff’s sergeant said.

The gunfire erupted at 8 p.m. when two men got into an argument outside the eatery at 6005 Rosemead Blvd. near Mines Avenue, said Sgt. Sandy Crosthwaite of the Pico Rivera Sheriff’s Station. One was seen fleeing in a dark colored car toward Mines Avenue. The whereabouts of the other man were not known, he said.

“There were more than several gunshots,” Crosthwaite said. “It caused people to scatter.”

Three windows of the pizzeria and children’s fun center were broken and at least two had what appeared to be bullet holes, said a news photographer at the scene. It was unclear whether any of the rounds entered the business.

Deputies were marking bullet casings in the parking lot, the photographer said.

They were also looking for spent bullets inside the business in hopes of identifying the type of weapon fired, Crosthwaite said.

Chuck E. Cheese’s was “probably just a victim of circumstance,” he said. Investigators did not think the two men came from inside the family- friendly restaurant.

None of the other businesses in the shopping center sustained gunshot damage, he said.

No victims were found outside or at nearby hospitals, Crosthwaite said. “Eventually, if someone was hit, they’ll turn up.”

A customer who was inside the business for the celebration of her daughter’s seventh birthday told the photographer she heard glass crashing so she hit the floor and began looking for her kids.
