Police on Tuesday sought public help to find a hit-and-run motorist responsible for critically injuring a pedestrian just south of downtown Los Angeles on Monday night.

Carlos Cuellar, 54, of Los Angeles was walking across Central Avenue at 23rd Street about 10:30 p.m. when he was hit by a southbound car, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

Cuellar was taken to a hospital in critical condition with head and body injuries, police said.

Witnesses told police the vehicle that hit Cuellar was a black, older- model Honda Accord with four doors. There was no description of the driver.
