Two brothers were facing attempted murder charges Friday in connection with a non-injury, gang-related shooting that left a busy Pico Rivera Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant riddled with bullets, authorities said.

The arrests of 31-year-old Jimmy Ortiz and 33-year-old Jesse Ortiz — who both are from Pico Rivera and have ties to an area gang — followed a month- long investigation into the shooting, which happened about 8 p.m. Sept. 28 at the pizza and game emporium in the 6000 block of Rosemead Blvd., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“When deputies arrived they discovered multiple rounds had pierced the exterior of the Chuck E. Cheese and entered the interior, narrowly missing the numerous children and adults inside,” sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Rouzan said. “The gunfire emanated from a gang-related confrontation in the parking lot of the business.”

None of those involved in the shooting were immediately identified, but the investigation progressed with search warrants being served in Pico Rivera and Los Angeles and four people being arrested or detained, he said.

“The investigation culminated with the arrest of the suspects,” Rouzan said. “Two potential victims were identified, detained and later released. Investigators discovered the two suspects were the aggressors in the incident and initiated the shooting.”

The two were charged earlier this month with attempted murder and shooting into an inhabited dwelling, according to the district attorney’s office.

The criminal complaint also includes an allegation that Jimmy Ortiz personally discharged a firearm.

Bail was set at $2 million for Jimmy Ortiz and $1 million for Jesse Ortiz and both were due in court in Norwalk on Dec. 15 when a date for preliminary hearing was to be set.

The brothers were being held at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic, according to sheriff’s online booking records.
