lady justice 2 16-9

A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was sentenced Tuesday to three years in state prison for a lewd act with a 15-year- old girl whose family he knew socially.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin also ordered John Augustus Rose II, 44, to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Rose was immediately taken into custody to serve his sentence.

Rose pleaded no contest Oct. 21 to one felony count each of committing a lewd act on a child and possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct. Eleven other sex-related charges against him were dismissed as a result of his plea.

He had been with the sheriff’s department for more than two decades when he was charged in September 2013.

At a hearing last year, Rose’s attorney told a judge that the deputy was a “hero to the community” who had received many awards, including a Medal of Valor for rescuing a woman trapped in her cabin by the 2002 Curve fire in San Gabriel Canyon.
