A 36-year-old woman from Austin, Texas, was in custody Tuesday after leading authorities on a three-county, 80-minute chase that began in Seal Beach and ended about 15 miles south of Bakersfield, authorities said.
The woman was being booked for felony evading and DUI, with other charges possibly pending, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Mesa said.
The chase began on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway at 10:02 p.m. Monday and ended at 11:23 p.m. on state Highway 99 in Kern County, Mesa said.
The vehicle, a 2012 Hyundai Veloster, ran over a spike strip on the highway, disabling its right front tire, Mesa said, adding that the driver appeared unhappy about being taken into custody at the end of the pursuit.
“She didn’t follow all of the instructions, but she didn’t resist.” Mesa said.
The high-speed chase regularly reached speeds of 90-100 mph according to broadcast reports and authorities, as the compact headed north on the San Diego and Golden State (5) freeways.
The driver was originally sought for speeding and driving in the center divider lane, CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said.
