A Newhall man who allegedly aimed a stolen pickup truck at a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy and then barricaded himself inside a house for more than three hours pleaded not guilty Wednesday to felony charges.

Jesse Alan Tucker, 30, is charged with one felony count each of assault upon a peace officer, resisting an executive order, grand theft auto with a prior, kidnapping and criminal threats, along with one misdemeanor count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a smoking device and driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

The criminal complaint alleges that he was convicted in 2012 for evading an officer with willful disregard and in 2010 for grand theft of an automobile.

Tucker allegedly stole a Ford F-150 that had the name of a landscaping contractor on its side and was equipped with tracking equipment which enabled deputies to locate the truck near Newhall Avenue and Sierra Highway about 8:45 a.m. Monday.

A sheriff’s deputy fired one round at Tucker after he allegedly drove from a service road toward the deputy and another person. The shot struck the passenger window, and the truck crashed into a small retainer wall, authorities said.

Tucker allegedly ran from the vehicle and forced someone to take him to her home, where he was arrested after a standoff.

He’s being held without bail and is due back in a San Fernando courtroom on Feb. 13. If convicted as charged, he could face more than 14 years in state prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
