A fire broke out in a residential triplex in the Westlake district and spread to an adjacent apartment building Friday before firefighters knocked it down, authorities said.

Two firefighters, among 87 who responded to the fire, suffered minor hand burns in the blaze, which was reported at 3:06 p.m. at 322 N. Belmont Ave., Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The fire spread to an adjacent two-story apartment building at 326 N. Belmont Ave., he said.

The flames were knocked down in 35 minutes, Humphrey said.

The triplex sustained extreme damage and at least seven units in the apartment building had fire damage, Humphrey said.

The injured firefighters were “receiving clinical care,” Humphrey said.

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
