A California Highway Patrol vehicle was struck Saturday morning in a hit-and-run collision and caught fire while parked on the right shoulder of the Pomona (60) Freeway while two officers were talking with drivers involved in another matter.
The incident occurred at 2 a.m. on the eastbound Pomona Freeway just east of Peck Road, said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos.
The unit was parked on the right shoulder and the officers were outside of the vehicle dealing with another incident, Villalobos said.
“A minivan and a dark sedan were involved in a traffic collision and the minivan struck the patrol car and overturned,” he said. The minivan driver suffered moderate injuries and was extricated by Los Angeles County firefighters and transported to a hospital for treatment. The dark sedan kept going.
The patrol car caught fire and firefighters put it out, Villalobos said. Neither CHP officer was injured.
