A man is in custody after a more than eight-hour standoff with sheriff’s deputies at a home in Pico Rivera.

It all began at 2:46 p.m. Saturday when gunshots were heard at a home near Telegraph Road and Serapis Avenue, the Whittier Daily News reported.

When deputies arrived, the man refused to surrender and barricaded himself inside the empty home.

Residents arriving at the home later told authorities the man was the grandson, KABC-TV reported.

He is facing charges for burglary and discharging a firearm
